Tim Hutzul, Esq., International Historian

Tim Hutzul, the International Historian of Phi Delta Phi, is a legal consultant in Toronto, Canada for a mix of private and public Canadian companies. An avid film buff, he recently founded a small film production company with several friends. Prior to his current ventures, Tim worked on Bay Street (the financial centre of Canada) for several leading boutique and national firms as a corporate-securities lawyer.

Tim has been an active member of Phi Delta Phi since his student days at the University of Toronto Law School. With the assistance of then Assistant Province President Jeff Wilker (now International President) Tim helped charter the Laskin Inn (named after the great Canadian Chief Justice Bora Laskin) at UofT. After law school he stayed involved in PDP as Alumni Advisor, Province President for Province IV, director of the Ontario Society and now International Historian. As Province President Tim organized one of the largest Conclaves (leadership seminar) in recent PDP history, which was attended by students from six provinces. An honorary member of Osgoode Inn, Tim has also played an active role in the Annual Osgoode Alumni and Student Initiation Banquet for student and alumni members of PDP across Ontario. Keynote speakers and honorary initiates during his involvement include former Ontario Premier Bob Rae, Justice Louise Arbour of the Supreme Court of Canada and Dean Patrick Monahan of Osgoode Hall. Tim has also attended every General Convention since Philadelphia in 1999 and has participated in initiations involving students from Duke (Hughes Inn), Osgoode Hall (Osgoode Hall), McGill (Laurier Inn), UofT (Laskin Inn), Windsor (Paul Martin Inn) and Western (Rand Inn). His first speech as International Historian entitled "The President, the Yankee and the Hero" is published here.

A history buff (or "nerd" as his wife affectionately notes), Tim majored in American History and wrote his undergraduate thesis on the social impact of the first two black heavyweight boxing champions (Jack Johnson and Joe Louis). In addition to his role as International Historian Tim continues to pursue his interests in military history (particularly the American Civil War), 20th century politics, and the heavyweight boxing championship.

Tim lives in the West End of Toronto with his wife Ulana (also a member of the Laskin Inn) and daughter Maya (who attended her first PDP Convention in New Orleans). He has been known to share a beer and discuss PDP matters with International President and neighbor Jeff Wilker at local watering holes.
